On a fateful day in 2002 me (Anthony Butler) & Paul Verrechia (that's where we got our stupid names from..) met in a city centre bar. We have been playing with each other ever since (ahem..).
Courtneys was the venue and i was a weekly resident playing 5 hours every Friday & Saturday. It was my first residency that I gained after makin what ended up being the biggest old skool site on the internet www.oldskoolanthemz.com.
The manager did his best to keep spirits up for the mammoth sets by supplying a bottle of brandy. It didn't work it turned me into a workshy alcoholic. Recca (who I knew through OSA) was at the night checking it out and ended up putting a few tunes on - the rest as they say is history. At least we think it went like that. Can't really remember.
From then on the relationship blossomed. I got a monthly residency at the legendary maximes - back to the old skool and recca would cover my gig at courtneys. I took the money from both gigs. On reflection it wasn't very fair that sorry mate. Lol
Over the past 10 years or so we have been lucky enough to play hundreds of gigs. We enjoy it as much now as the day we started and its great to see a new generation getting into the old stuff. There is nothing better than turning up with a big box of tunes not knowing which way its gonna go - finding your way through a set seeing what makes people dance.
If you do get to one of our gigs (they are listed on the home page) do come and say hello, if you have requests email us before hand it gives us time to dig them out for you.
At this point we will do one of them daft question and answer things whilst trying to steer clear of pointless questions like favourite colour and stuff..
Butty: Some of the Maximes gigs were pretty special for me because it was a bit of a dream come true ending up playing there.
Recca: Really enjoying the BBDD events at the moment, some of the early Timeless ones at The Music Box were blinding also.
Butty: Denvers in Manchester. A table of drinks upstairs got knocked over upstairs and it started coming through the ceiling.
Recca: Yeah you can prepare yourself for most situations, raining on the decks isnt one of them..
Butty: Young MC - Know How, Sunscreem - Perfect Motion, Asha - JJ Tribute, Rhythm of Life - Touch Me, Hardplayers - Joy Of Music
Recca: Liberation - Liberation 2, Love Decade - Dream On, Prodigy - Your Love, HouseCrew - We Are Hardcore, Manic - Im Comin Hardcore
If we were to name everyone we wanted to on here the page would be 3 miles so long so would like to say a big thanks to all promoters that have booked us for letting us play at your parties. A massivs bag of respect goes to all DJ’s still keeping the old skool flag flying. A special mention goes to Graham (Courtneys), Gary Hypnotic (Maximes), Tim Owen (BBDD), Quey (Timeless), Grimmy (Reflex) and the legends that are Nipper & Welly.
Most of all big up to everyone who turns up and has a dance when we are playing. You got the moves like Jagger! :)
